Who am I?

My Sunflower bike.
Hi! My name is Corina and I am a 25-year-old geologist and… well that part I am still figuring out. I grew up just north of Seattle, Washington in a very active outdoorsy family; biking, hiking, skiing, and camping our way around Washington State. I still love exploring new places and going on weekend adventures with friends and family. I now live in Bellingham, WA and am a graduate of Western Washington University. In the three years since graduating I have enjoyed working at my local State Park and working on natural resource conservation projects related to ground water and surface water protection in Whatcom County.

Geologizing in the California desert.
My dad has always been the extreme cyclist in the family and he has inspired me to continue pushing my limits on how far I can ride my bike. We started with family rides on the weekends and in the last few years I have been pushing myself to ride farther and farther. The coolest ride I have done so far is riding the Mount Baker Highway to Artist Point (You should look up Mount Baker if you are not familiar with the volcano). I am really excited to bike across the country and experience the geomorphic extremes and wonders of the US from the seat of a bicycle. I want to feel all rugged mountains, both slugging up the ascent and flying on the decent. I want to see the extreme expanses of the deserts and test the limits of how far my eyes can see. I am a bit nervous about how far it is across the US, and I know it will be a challenge to pedal some days, but I love pushing my body to it’s limits and amazing myself at what I can accomplish.
At the Summit of Mt. Baker!!

I heard about Bike & Build from a friend of a friend who participated in Bike & Build a few years ago. I have been very intrigued by the idea of riding my bicycle across the country for the past few years and love the idea of turning a personal goal into a adventure that will also benefit others and spread the word about a very important cause. Having a home is an essential part of life and yet there is a shortage of affordable housing in the US. Tandem to this problem is the issue that not enough people are aware there is a shortage of affordable housing. Bike and Build is a great organization because it takes raising money and awareness for affordable housing one step further by involving participants in the building process and developing a connection with the

community. I am very excited to be a part of building projects in my community prior to the projects I will be a part of this summer.

Thanks for taking the time to meet me and supporting affordable housing. See you on the road this summer!
